===================================
Some Facts about the stuff that inspired this piece:

Inariyama:
-a famous ancient sword
-a mountain in Tokyo
INARI / Oinari / Oinari-sama
-Shinto God/Goddess of Rice & Food
Messenger = The Fox (Kitsune)

Inariyama sword (Inariyama Kofun Shutsudo Tekken 稲荷山古墳出土鉄剣 or Kinsakumei Tekken 金錯銘鉄剣 ) is an iron sword excavated at the Inariyama Kofun in 1968, located in Saitama Prefecture. The sword is designated as a national treasure of Japan

The original Chinese inscription found in the sword is as follows;

In English;
Written in the seventh month, the year of xīn-hài (471 CE). I am a subordinate, Wowake. The first ancestor was Ohohiko, its son was Takarinosuku, its son was Takarinosukune, its son was Teyokariwake, its son was Tasakiwake, its son was Hatehi, its son was Kasahiko and
its son was a subordinate, Wowake. My family have served as guardsmen for kings until now. When King Wakatakeru presented at the palace of Shiki, I helped King to govern the world. And I ordered to make this 100 times-forged sword

pretty cool, huh? ;p

moving on...
Inari-yama (Mt. Inari) altitude: 233m. Location: Fushimi, Kyoto.
Found here is the Famous Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine, one of most recognizable icons of Japan. Fushimi-Inari is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the spirit Inari, who's name was derived from ine-nari, or "growing rice" or "grain." The Fushimi-Inari shrine is the oldest and most prominent Inari shrine (711 AD ).

and finally...
Kitsune are believed to possess superior intelligence, long life, and magical powers. They are a type of yōkai, or spiritual entity, and the word kitsune is often translated as fox spirit. They grow in power as they age. After a century, they grow a tail and gain the ability to shape-shift and possess people. The most powerful foxes are those who reach the grand old age of 1,000 (the so-called nine-tailed fox "kyubi no kitsune"). When a kitsune gains nine tails, its fur becomes silver, white, or gold, and it gains the power of infinite vision. They are the messengers of the god Inari, but sometimes also are a depiction of the god itself.

===================================
Not inspired by any anime whatsoever, I've been playing with this concept for some time, a gigantic fox warrior-god/spirit.. I wanted the artwork to have a mythical basis, but i could'nt find one that fit the bill, since the foxes aren't depicted as warriors, but are rather wise spirits, either benevolent or malevolent...
<s>(sorry, no naruto fan here!)</s> ;p
